Taekwondo Olympic Sparring is a competitive sport that allows students to test their skills in a safe and controlled environment. Sparring is done with FULL protective gear including head, chest, arms, legs, teeth, and groin protection.
Taekwondo Olympic Sparring has been an Olympic event since 2000. The governing body for Taekwondo in the Olympics is Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Headquarters). Since 2000, Taekwondo has been one of only two Asian martial arts (the other being judo) that are included in the Olympic Games. It started as a demonstration event at the 1988 games in Seoul, a year after becoming a medal event at the Pan Am Games, and became an official medal event at the 2000 games in Sydney.
Olympic Sparring is an extremely active sport.
Training this sport will improve your cardiovascular endurance, agility, balance, and overall physical fitness. Like any sport, there are specific rules to ensure fair play and an appropriate degree of safety is maintained. All competitors wear FULL protective gear.
Due to the general nature of this sport, your brain will begin to develop a higher than average response time. This is generally at higher competition levels because a large focus of your training is to avoid kicks to your head. Through training this sport, you will learn how to judge distance, counter & evade attacks coming at you very quickly.
Enhanced response time is one of the benefits of Taekwondo!
Students training in Taekwondo are invited to join our competition team once they have learned the basic stances and kicks.
This program is 100% optional.
Students will develop the following:
We compete in AAU and USAT State & Nationals and many smaller local tournaments throughout the year.
Tournament participation is highly encouraged but not required.
